A New Device

My Father said his first clearly audible words in over three weeks after his trache was lessened from 8mm to 6 and a new device inserted. On the down side, Dad was administered narcotics again which we had been told he would not be, making him groggy and less responsive.

Progress Being Made

My Father is off the ventilator entirely (thank God) and on a trache collar. He and we continue to need and appreciate your prayers.

Acute Care Awaits

For good or for ill, my Father will likely leave the hospital soon for rehabilitation. He will evidently be sent by the middle of next week, if not earlier.

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

Keep Counting Blessings

My Dad was off the ventilator only being supported with oxygen for three hours (or so) today. He does not yet meet the numerical parameters for weaning but is being eased off the breathing machine just the same.

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

Miracle or Misery

We heard again today of my Father's dire prognosis. Dad also sat with his legs over the edge of the bed for the first time in three weeks with the assistance of two physical therapists.

Justify Your Existence

Disturbingly, health care already seems to be rationed. Other patients and their families seem to be battling for treatment just as we have.

Sunday, December 25, 2011

Without a Voice

My Father has not spoken since moments after he entered the emergency room where he had to be placed on a ventilator, but one of the most painful things for the family is watching the tears from this tough and stoic man's eyes.

Saturday, December 24, 2011

Hope Over Experience

My Father may be transferred from his hospital to a so-called "acute care facility". We are filled with trepidation but are left to pray for the best.

Friday, December 23, 2011

Seymour Struggles On

My Father sat up today for just the second time since he was placed on a ventilator. My Mom described it best. She said,"He is fighting like a champ".

Thursday, December 22, 2011

The Problem's Nature

My father smoked for forty years but quit forty years ago. Among the challenges confronting him, his anxiety causing him to breathe too rapidly seems to be the most perplexing. He can not be weaned off the ventilator because he panics and hyperventilates. He is then sedated which makes it that much harder to breathe on his own. He is obviously still quite critically ill and he and we need and thank you for your continuing prayers.

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

Really Suffering Now

My Dad is in quite a bit of pain when he is conscious. He is breathing on his own somewhat when he is not so doped up. Thank you for your continuing support.

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

Surgery Went Well

Thank the Lord, my Dad's procedures appear to have gone flawlessly. Thank you readers for your warm wishes and prayers. A long road remains ahead for him and us and your continuing support is deeply appreciated.

Out It Comes

Today, my father's ventilator will be removed from his mouth and a tracheotomy will replace it. His feeding tube will exit his nose and be inserted into his belly. Please continue to pray for him (Seymour Goodman).

Monday, December 19, 2011

Fight Goes On

My Dad sustained a setback as he was too weak to be weaned from his ventilator and instead will be given a tracheotomy in an attempt to expedite the weaning. Please keep him (us) in your prayers.

Sunday, December 18, 2011

Touch and Go

Medical staff will extubate tomorrow. We are informed the prospects of my father breathing on his own are fifty-fifty. Now more than ever, your prayers are needed and appreciated.

Saturday, December 17, 2011

Days of Decision

The care team will attempt to wean my father off his ventilator today, Sunday, and/or Monday. We are so grateful for your continuing support.

Friday, December 16, 2011

Prayer Chain Expands

Though my father never visited Wyoming or Idaho, I am informed his prayer chain has now entered those great Western states. Thank you so much.

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Keep on Praying

An expression of the seventies that has become quaint is "keep on trucking". I implore those who care to send up a prayer for my critically-ill father Seymour Goodman.

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Holding His Own

We accept as a blessing that my father's condition did not deteriorate during the night. The prayer chain now reaches Baltimore.

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

Power of Prayer

Faith is a powerful ally in the fight for life. The ultimate gift is a thing that can never be taken for granted or squandered.

Monday, December 12, 2011

Struggle Goes Forward

The administration of steroids has started tonight in an attempt to boost my father's lung function. Once again, prayers for Seymour Goodman are and will be greatly appreciated.

Sunday, December 11, 2011

A Status Update

My father's fight continues as he remains on a ventilator and feeding tube. For the kind notes and prayers, thank you so much.

Saturday, December 10, 2011

Praying for Improvement

The hospital staff are attempting to ween my father off the ventilator today. Please keep him in your prayers.

Friday, December 9, 2011

The Right Thing?

Of course, we will always err on the side of preserving life but are left to wonder at times if we are only prolonging death as my father's already grave condition seems to cascade downward- ever downward. Thanks to all for the warm wishes and prayers.

Thursday, December 8, 2011

Battle Goes On

Thank you for your prayers and support as my father continues his struggle. Though politics and strategic affairs march on relentlessly, my attention by sad necessity is elsewhere.

Wednesday, December 7, 2011

Time of Crisis

Whether or not my father emerges from his current medical distress, I am heartened by some of his recent words to me: "Fear not boy, the Republic shall survive". May his words prove prophetic.

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Lamentation for Father

Gentle readers, my ninety year old father is critically ill. His name is Seymour Goodman and I and my family greatly appreciate your prayers. I hope you can forgive my seeming brevity and lack of attention in allowing this commentary to lapse but family naturally comes first. God bless you all.

Pondering Nashville's "Homeless"

I have nothing but empathy for those with some real physical or mental disability that actually precludes work and for those who have made every effort to find a job but in the Obama economy could not and nothing but contempt for those who could find gainful employment but opt to become parasites on society. In my life I have had various and sundry interaction with the supposedly dispossessed in my hometown. I recently saw an older black man sitting at a gas station in an old "airborne" uniform with an old GI duffel bag and a piece of cardboard on which "Atlanta" was written in red ink. He did not engage me and asked me for nothing. Of my own volition, I handed him a five dollar bill. On an occasion many years ago, I left a downtown restaurant to find myself surrounded by several young black men who prevented me from entering my car. They asked for money and feeling "compelled", I gave them some. These youth claimed to have been staying at the "Mission", so I had to conclude they were homeless. Also, years ago I was mugged when I was still young by a thirty-five (or so) year old white man who threatened me with what he claimed was an "AIDS" needle. I was more recently dining downtown where hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent over the years on so-called urban renewal and three million dollars had been spent refurbishing an old performance venue into a shining new eatery. A vagrant attempted to impose a dining tax because I had the temerity to leave the confines of my own house. A nasty confrontation ensued. I have come to find out that the "homeless" are now a protected class. No society can long endure in a situation where the dole dweller has more rights than the earner and the parasite is legally-protected in imposing his will on the host.

Who Benefits Now?

With Herman Cain gone, where will his former supporters throw their support? The conventional wisdom says to Newt Gingrich, but others think Michele Bachmann or Rick Santorum may draw off some of Cain's followers. On this occasion, I have to say only time will tell.

Saturday, December 3, 2011

Pain From Cain

Can you imagine the over-inflated ego, conceive of such blatant hubris as Herman Cain evidently possesses as to engage in a long-term sexual liaison breaking his marriage vows and be so self-deluded as to think that under the microscopic scrutiny of a Presidential campaign that the affair would not come out? What could possibly possess him to think that he could get away with it? In any event, Cain was found out and could not possibly remain in the race. Today, he fell on his proverbial sword and quit his pursuit of the nation's highest office. His buoyant personality may be missed but his scandalous conduct put paid to his run.

America, the Vanquished

From the era of Teddy Roosevelt, through the First and Second World Wars, until the Presidency of the present day, America was the broad-shouldered leader of the so-called "free world". Our current President Barack Hussein Obama has deliberately relinquished that, abandoning the mantle of leadership for his preferred course of "leading from behind". Obama has spoiled the ethos that shaped the greatest republic there has ever been with this active oxymoron, and instead of fostering liberty, Obama has presided over rapid Islamization from Morocco to Egypt, in much the same bumbling way in which Jimmy Carter lost Iran. This development will prove over time to have been catastrophic with groups rising to power with Obama's blessing who will work against the interests of the United States and the West. Sadly, in less than one term of the Obama Presidency, we have been transformed from the greatest source of liberation the world has ever known into a follower and the great enabler of expansionist Islam.

Watching America Surrender

Joe Biden, second fiddle to the American Nero, delivered the good news to Shia Islamists in person today in Baghdad. Biden declared to Iraq that our troop presence there is over, our sacrifice there futile, the white flag delivered to Iran's proxies, the Mahdi Army and Hezbollah in Iraq. Biden talked about the stable democracy that we are leaving for Iraqis as a bomb killed more than a dozen there. The United States has lost thousands of service personnel killed in Iraq and also, though almost never mentioned, thousands more US contractors. Here though, America finds herself snatching defeat from the jaws of victory with the cold breath of Iranian influence blowing out real hopes for a democracy in Iraq friendly to America's interests. Those who seek chaos in the region will be heartened by our ill-timed departure after so much blood and treasure had been expended to do real good.

Stain on Cain

If Herman Cain had either a "noble benefactor" to a "downtrodden ward" or even a simply innocent relationship as some sort of sponsor and mentor with the Atlanta woman who alleges an affair, then why was she not standing beside him in any campaign event? Why was she hidden away and not mentioned as one of the candidate's good works? Cain seems to be a Republican Gary Hart with too many skeletons closeted away to maintain a campaign. Even with his personal and credibility issues, he remains a better choice than the current occupant of the Oval Office.

A Realpolitik Demarche

There is an answer to the "Pakistan Crisis" and that is the credible threat of massive and overwhelming force. Kissinger and Metternich both recognized the shortcomings of diplomacy- that being that without the iron fist inside it, the velvet glove is found wanting- and this is never more true than in diplomatic efforts with basket case double-dealers like Pakistan. A nation (particularly, the last superpower) must answer a two-faced country with a credible ultimatum and grave consequence for ignoring it.

Cain Train Derails

Herman Cain seems to have met his Waterloo. After numerous unsubstantiated and vehemently denied claims of sexual harassment, Cain did not wholeheartedly refute an assertion by an Atlanta woman of a thirteen year extramarital liaison. Cain has obviously been less than candid with the American people and evidently and more importantly, with his own wife. Cain already had some difficulty in answering even relatively simple foreign policy questions and this emerging scandal would seem to end any possibility of a viable Presidential campaign.

No New Newt

Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Newt Gingrich has experienced a meteoric resurgence in his campaign for the Republican nomination to contest Obama for the Presidency. Gingrich has some good ideas and articulates them in a cogent and persuasive way. Newt also has risen to criticize the overt media anti-GOP bias. But Gingrich also has a track record of shifting from right-wing firebrand and real revolutionary as an insurgent Congressman to midway moderate making common cause with Hillary Clinton on health care and even appearing in a "green" commercial with Nancy Pelosi. Now Gingrich once again attempts to assume the mantle of conservative leader but with just enough equivocation to gain some Hispanic support with an immigration stance that I believe is far too nuanced for GOP primary voters. Along with his reputed extravagant spending (lavishing his wife with Tiffany), personal baggage from two divorces, and payments from Freddie Mac reputed to be more than a million dollars, Gingrich's tilting left on medicine and the environment in the not too distant past and now pandering to illegal aliens will disqualify him with real Right voters.

Reckoning With Pakistan

Yesterday, a couple of dozen Pakistani troops were reportedly killed in a NATO strike which brought forth copious public US mea culpas. Why are American politicians across the political spectrum apologizing so profusely to a nation that gladly takes US military assistance and our foreign aid but continues to support Islamist terror directed against the Karzai government of Afghanistan, against our forces and our international force allies there, and against India in particular? Why say sorry to the nation that brought the world the so-called "Islamic Bomb" and the accompanying proliferation effort, particularly being instrumental in arming up North Korea with nukes? Pakistan is a nation that if the West had rational leaders would be trembling in fear and living on sufferance.

Labor Troubles Ending

We were all on tenterhooks awaiting the end of the National Basketball Association wage dispute. I mean, who would not be utterly engrossed in how a bunch of early twenties millionaires solved their problem with the ego-fueled billionaires who own the teams? Who does not want to see semi-literates with great leaping ability prosper and seven foot tall East Europeans do well? If these upstanding young dunkers did not have basketball to rely on, think of the success they may have made as street thugs. Along with the sundry drug and domestic violence charges on many a "playa's" rap sheet, we find former NBA guard Javaris Crittenton up on a murder charge. In any event, since Michael Jordan left the league, watching the pro game has been about as exiting as watching paint dry. I did not even notice the lack of games being broadcast, and certainly did not miss them.

The Green Caprice

No this column does not concern any incarnation of a Chevy but the arbitrary way in which the Obama administration has shut down the attempt to construct a new pipeline between Canada and the United States which would have created around two hundred thousand jobs and provided an abundant source of energy much cheaper than the petroleum being imported from the Middle East. The supposed hitch is an "environmentally-sensitive" area in Nebraska which would purportedly be irrevocably befouled if a pipe ran through it. Team Obama is so committed to replacing the real economy with a "green economy" that they are happy sacrificing real jobs and forcing high fuel costs on the American people to maintain the illusion. Solar and wind energy are a "pipe dream" but an efficient pipeline would be a real answer providing gainful employment across many states and cheaper gas for all of us.

Giving Thanks For . . .

Rarely do I delve into matters personal on this forum, but please indulge me on this Thanksgiving day. We are blessed in so many ways to be in this nation, even though it may temporarily be Obama's America. We are essentially still free, enjoying a blessing of liberty so rare throughout human history. Even with our Obama-induced economic downturn, America remains a "Land of Plenty" without endemic hunger or starvation on our streets. Now to give thanks for matters of family. Thank you Lord for bringing Kristy into my life, wherever it eventually leads. Thanks for motivating me three weeks ago next Monday to drive the four hundred or so round trip miles to rescue "Cassie" even though she is about as much a Keeshond as I am. (Well, perhaps we are both Kees in spirit at least.) Thank You most of all for strengthening my father in his health crisis since August and particularly since he was hospitalized again earlier this month. Gentle reader please forgive me that my output has suffered but his and my mother's illnesses have been hard to contend with while remaining involved and aware of American and world politics and the geostrategic situation. God bless us all.

Stirring the Pot

Newt Gingrich, the former conservative... I mean, former Speaker of the US House of Representatives, put out the welcome mat to America's invaders (which would obviously largely be from the South). Suddenly Pablo's dear friend, Gingrich decides to spit in the face of American citizens and those who respect the process of becoming Americans as Gingrich panders to what he perceives as the Hispanic vote and the beck and call of the keep labor cost down crowd by exploiting the undocumented for low wage work. Newt may have picked up these voters but those who want to guard America's borders will find Newt's stance reprehensible.

Same Old Egypt

Great hope was expressed for a new, more democratic Egypt to emerge after Hosni Mubarak was deposed from power by the so-called "Arab Spring". Let us now explore how Mubarak came to lead Egypt and more importantly, how Mubarak retained his power although he was widely despised by the Egyptian people? The answer is glaringly simple- Mubarak was installed and clung to office solely because of his membership in and continuing association with the officer corps of Egypt's military. When it served their interest to change figureheads and remove Mubarak, the generals did, while holding on to all the authority and incumbent force that they had vested in themselves. The old dictator is out of power but the dictatorship behind him remains firmly in place.

Another American Turncoat

Another US citizen has been accused of plotting murder as part of al-Qaeda's evil mission. Jose Pimentel of New York City was evidently seduced to do terror's bidding on the Internet. Somehow, Mr. Pimentel found something appealing in the nihilistic, "murder thy neighbor" message of an organization which is literally all bad. Of course, Mr. Pimental, if convicted, needs to be confined to protect society, but I would really like to know how his mind was so perverted as to despise America and the opportunity it offers.

Father Coughlin's Candidate

Isolationism has been tried by the United States before, with disastrous consequences for America and for the world. Ron Paul, the cantankerous Congressman from Texas is an isolationist. America First did not work when oceans separated armies as Coughlin, Lindbergh, and their ilk found out as the US was attacked at Pearl Harbor. In this ICBM and Jet Age era, America can not play ostrich and simply hide from evil because as we saw again on September 11, 2001, even those far away can do us great harm if we ignore their malign intentions. Threat must be answered with force and attack must be met with absolute annihilation. America can not be a fortress within continental shores with our heads buried safely in the sand because Islamists are determined to establish a global caliphate that includes the USA.

"Saif" Not Safe

Repugnant Muammar Qaddafi's last at-large son Saif al-Islam has been captured by the vengeful forces of the people his father and family oppressed for more than a generation. Saif should expect neither justice or mercy from the people of Libya but almost certainly a rapid but painful death. These potentates who seized power like Qaddafi or Assad were never loved but frequently feared and ultimately despised by those who they claimed to protect. No matter how brutal Saif's fate, few tears will be shed for him.

Talking to God

A deranged Idahoan allegedly tried to assassinate our President. This person reportedly believed he had a personal channel to the Lord and that the leader of the free world, Barack Obama, is the anti-Christ. Let us hope this gunman is placed where he can do no harm to anyone in society. There are certainly differences between the President's worldview and that of America's conservatives, but the only place to resolve that is the ballot box. There is no place in public discourse for threats and no substitute for change through votes in our Constitutional Republic and our hallowed political process.

Shockingly Misplaced Priorities

"Despot in Waiting" is by no means an sports' column, but I am compelled once again by events to touch on athletics now. Penn St. University is one of America's preeminent college football programs but is now justifiably being cast in a completely different light. Allegedly, a long-term assistant coach was involved in the rape of several boys who were participating in his charitable foundation even after another staff member witnessed him in the act and reported the alleged offense to both authorities and superiors within the football program. In what had been purported to be a scrupulous organization committed to the rules, no immediate action was taken against the alleged offender. If someone was caught flagrante delicto violating a child, in other instances, they would be immediately detained on the way to speedy incarceration, or even throttled by those who caught him, but at Penn State, the grotesque sodomy seemed to be ignored with the focus remaining on winning football games. This evident lack of action that allowed sexual assaults on children to go on unabated has tarnished a once glowing organization and must bring calumny and criminal persecution on all those with knowledge of child rape who kept quiet about it.

Afghan Slap Down

Hamid Karzai today said that US bases can remain in Afghanistan essentially only if America's troops give up the right to defend themselves. Perhaps some special operator should effect regime change and a true ally of the United States should be installed in Karzai's stead.

A Liar's Truth

According to our President Barack Hussein Obama, we America's citizens, our business owners, our laborers are "a little lazy". According to our nation's leader, our own sloth has cost us our competitive edge. If you agree with our President's contentions that the country is failing because you do not work hard enough, by all means, vote for Obama in 2012. If on the other hand, you believe Obama has not worked with sufficient vigor or has focused his energy in ways ultimately detrimental to the United States of America, vote the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue out, and someone who will not insult our work ethic in to save our formerly grand Republic.

Hearing the Supremes

Diana Ross will not hear the case for Obama Care but the Supremes will- the Supreme Court that is. This will be the most significant issue that the highest US court will decide upon since Roe. Depending on the construction of the decision, we will either live fully under socialism, with government dictating our medical destiny- our very lives- or remain the Republic our Founders envisaged with the people retaining a greater degree of self-determination. The stakes literally could not be higher than life in freedom or rationed care death. Disturbingly, the Supreme Court is infested with four doctrinaire Leftists (the two Obama appointees, Kagan, and "Soviet"Sotomayor, former ACLU Counsel "Gams" Ginsberg, and foreign law enthusiast Stephen Breyer). There are four reasonable jurists, Alito, Thomas, Scalia, and Chief Justice Roberts. So, the Court's swing vote Anthony Kennedy holds the nation's destiny in his hands.

Bachmann Still Resonates

The NBC Sunday morning Gregory wonk program featured an interview with presidential aspirant and Minnesota Republican US Representative Michele Bachmann whose campaign has undeniably lost most of her early momentum. The question of course is "why"? I would contend there is nothing lacking in her consistency as a conservative and that much of the Bachmann energy was sapped when she was forced into the role of attack dog as the only female candidate and mother in regards to the Gardasil controversy as all the GOP opponents sought to take Texas Governor Rick Perry down a peg when he was the flavor of the moment, just-declared rising Republican star before his own shortcomings imploded Perry's chances. Bachmann has not been inconsistent or plagued with flip-flops like moderate Mitt Romney who now makes noises of pandering to conservative primary voters. Bachmann has been down the line "Right" on the issues and could yet regain favor among GOP voters who agree with her social conservatism and fiscal discipline as she has fought for Federal spending restraint throughout her public life. Bachmann could yet attain support of Christian voters with her consistency on values issues and score with value voters as well who recognize the grave danger the US economy still faces under Obama.

Our Own Candidate

The open primary process for the nomination of Presidential aspirants in several states damages conservatives. John McCain secured the GOP nomination in 2008 somewhat on the strength of Democrats who feared the nomination of a real right winger and decided to throw a wrench in the Republican works by voting in open primaries for the most liberal Republican they could find. The same turn of events could occur in this cycle with Democrats who know Obama will have no serious opposition in the nominating process as an incumbent President, jumping in the GOP voting line and casting for near-Democrat Mitt Romney. This is a win-win for Democrats because if Obama defeats Romney, the Left still controls the nation, and if Romney wins, he will govern as a weak as water moderate and probably leave Obama Care in place, only adjusting it at the margins while not making the conservative case on the social issues that matter to America's political Right.

On Liberty Unbound

Man's natural yearning is for freedom. Tyrants abhor freedom and so, through the ages, have fought to subdue this most natural aspiration. Until the United States came into being, the despots of the world had largely succeeded in holding liberty at bay. Only the might of the military forces of the United States of America changed this equation. Only the service of many millions under arms for America vouchsafed freedom through America's history including overcoming the Russian Communist threat and winning the Cold War and only the blood-bought sacrifice of many hundreds of thousands dying under the Red, White, and Blue ended the ruthless oppression by Nazis and the sadistic forces of World War II Japan. Thank a veteran today, and do not forget that veteran tomorrow.

A Passing Acquaintance

Barack Hussein Obama and the truth have met, but they are no longer on speaking terms.

Diving Into Volcanoes

Rick Perry was recently the presumptive favorite to gain the Republican nomination to contest the US Presidency in November 2012. That was a few months ago when Texas Governor Perry announced his candidacy- that was then- this is now. Rick Perry injured his hopes grievously when soon after announcing, he questioned the "hearts" of those who oppose giving set-asides in education to illegal aliens. Now the Perry campaign has gone from teetering on the abyss to falling into the chasm. Poor Perry had a mental lapse, a glitch of glaring magnitude, when he could only remember two of the three Federal departments that he plans to abolish if he wins the Presidency in last night's GOP Presidential debate. He recalled the Departments of Education and Commerce but could not quite grasp "Energy". To see him flail around like a beached fish was almost painful. While I have some qualms with Perry's immigration stance, I will concede that elsewise Perry is an authentic conservative and even with his horrible debate performances, his track record as a leader in Texas demonstrates that he would still be a vast improvement as US President over Barack Hussein Obama.

Mere Marxist Mischief

The radicals "occupying" Nashville, Tennessee's Legislative Plaza are taking measures to police that area. What a joke that notion is- they are no more than a bunch of hippies who should be evicted. This is not the "People's Plaza" or "Revolution Square" but the heart of representative government for the law-abiding, process-protecting citizens of Tennessee- not a haven for a bunch of rabble rousers and the mob they have instigated. These protesters are an insult for those who love our Republic and cherish freedom accompanied by good order. If you want a polarized country with violence in the streets, then allow these "occupy" street agitators to get by with more and more.

Hippo Versus Leprechaun

(A Fable): Some time back near a little town in Ireland where the only educated soul was the parish priest, a travelling circus lost their star attraction when a hippopotamus bolted after the circus train derailed from the tracks. The hippo was a relatively reserved creature for a species known generally to be one of the deadliest on the African continent, darting about the countryside trying to make itself as scarce as possible which is no mean feat for a fully grown adult animal that weighs around a half ton. Well, the local folk of this little town would wake to find their plowed fields ravaged and their gardens eaten up. They were not on the telegraph line and had not heard of the circus being nearby or even of a train leaving the tracks. Being superstitious and uneducated people, the villagers naturally assumed some deviltry was at work. One day a little girl on a farm near town insisted she had seen a leprechaun bouncing about when she went to use the outhouse on a night the barley crop had been trampled and decimated. Suddenly more folk insisted they had also witnessed the fabled protector of the "pot of gold" doing mischief. No one but the town vagrant, a roustabout, drunkard, and ne'er-do-well, claimed the damage was caused by anything but the rampaging leprechaun. The incredible tale the least believable character in town insisted on was that in the dead of night he had almost been crushed by a boar of enormous size, or a farmer's huge hog run amok or perhaps, most implausibly of all, an African rhino or hippopotamus somehow transported across the waters to the tranquil shores of Erin. Soon all nine hundred and ninety-nine denizens of the shire save two insisted they had seen the leprechaun despoiling the crops. The town drunk with his ridiculous assertion and the priest who had reserved judgement. Then one night, the priest's mind was made up for him when he heard a rustle in the bushes and his terror overcame his curiosity and he ran from the scene as fast as he could move his cassock. The priest too then insisted an evil leprechaun was at work. You see the lesson here plainly enough: Nearly a thousand people calling a hippo a leprechaun does not make it so. I would rather stick with one held in disrepute while telling the truth than follow the lies of the multitude. So I will continue to embrace "nine, nine, nine" and support Herman Cain no matter how many unsubstantiated claims are made.

A Bimbo Avalanche?

When William Jefferson Clinton was trying to gain the US Presidency and when he was serving in that august office, a plan came into being to deal with " bimbo eruptions". In the event, there were affronted ladies aplenty with one Clinton aide notoriously saying of Paula Jones, look what happens when you "drag a dollar bill through the trailer park". In spite of his sexual indiscretions, Clinton is still viewed by many as one of the great US Presidents. Although no affirmative proof exists that Herman Cain did anything on the scale of Bill Clinton, the media and Cain opponents are trying to say his alleged actions should disqualify him. Until concrete evidence emerges, I do not care if it is now four women accusing Cain or if it rises to forty, because there are always people willing to injure another to advance themselves or their cause whether the person hurt is guilty or not.

Religion of Peace?

More blood has been shed in the name of Islam, this time in Nigeria. A Drudge Report linked story from the Taiwan News about the massacre can be seen here: http://www.taiwannews.com.tw/etn/news_content.php?id=1750857. It is difficult to contemplate how peace can ever be achieved with those who believe their faith justifies such a murderous mentality.

A Genuine Menace

Listening to Ron Paul on the FOX Sunday Chris Wallace show offered a terrifying look at what a Paul Presidency might look like. How about the rapprochement with the Mad Mullahs of Iran that Paul policy would bring about? If you like that, you probably will love massive cuts to Federal medical research dollars. If you really hate sick people, the Jews and Israel, then Ron Paul is your man.

Reinstate General Fuller

When Barack Hussein Obama was seeking the US Presidency, he and other leftists spoke about speaking "truth to power". When US General Peter Fuller actually did just that, aptly characterizing Afghan (mis)leader Hamid Karzi, the General was summarily fired by the United States. FOX chronicles the story here: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/11/04/us-general-fired-for-verbal-attack-on-karzai/?test=latestnews. Why not reinstate the truth-telling military man when we fire his boss next November?

Trillions of Lies

The United States dollar (USD) was until recently the unquestioned reserve currency of the world. From the City of London to the Sultanate of Brunei, holding wealth in American currency was as sure as day following night. No one wanted to store what they had earned in the Yuan, the monetary unit of the Red Chinese slave state which was widely known to manipulate the value of her currency by artificially pegging it to what was formerly the true measure of worth, that being the USD. Because the United States Treasury has metaphorically overheated the presses with both America's fiscal and monetary policy run proverbially amok, the dollar is worth less with the potential to become worthless as in Zimbabwe or Weimar money where a wheelbarrow was required to haul the cash necessary to buy a loaf of bread. Thankfully the United States is not there yet but four more years of Obama and Bernanke will have us that much closer to economic oblivion.

Over Generous Greece

Turkey was once known as "the sick man of Europe". Turkey's long-time national rival Greece could now be called "Europe's dead man". Greece's political mismanagement of late has threatened to take down the world economy after other countries generously crafted a rescue plan to bail out Greece after a generation of unadulterated socialism broke her only to have the Greek Prime Minister Papandreou suddenly and inexplicably say he would put the so-called "haircut" to a national referendum. This precipitous nonsense crashed world markets before Papandreou retracted it, doing great harm to the economies of the nations trying to save Greece. Greece is no longer a viable self-sustaining polity but an entity built on dependency by the Greek people on giveaway programs by the Greek government that the Greek economy never had the means to pay for without massive borrowing from foreign sources making that nation into a ward of foreign lenders. Greece turned herself into a maggot-infested, fly-ridden corpse of her former self by allowing her citizens to believe they were entitled to cradle to grave government largess.

Baldfaced Partisan Attacks

I can not say who is behind the dissemination of allegations against Herman Cain, but one way to assess who might be pushing the charges is by looking at who stands to gain from Mr. Cain's fall. These snowballing claims could have been leaked by any Republican rival who thinks Herman blocks their path to nomination. The Democrat Party or Obama campaign may think Cain would prove a daunting challenge and want his candidacy eliminated now during the Republican nominating process. Look at those who fear that Cain might defeat them and you could surmise one or even several contestants might want as much dirt on Cain as can be dug up or a cynic might say, "manufactured".

No Objectivity Whatsoever

The dinosaur press gave and continues to give Barack Hussein Obama a free pass on essentially everything, the long-term association he had with race-baiting, anti-Semite, his reverend Jeremiah Wright, with Obama's connection to and work for scandal-ridden ACORN, with Obama's "friendship" with Weatherman terrorist Bill Ayers. The old line press ignores or minimizes Obama's missteps in the Presidency, largely has not bothered to mention that "Green Jobs Czar" Van Jones had been an active member of the Communist Party. The mainstream media (MSM) does not trouble the public with details about how Obama has concentrated more power in his office than any President since FDR. The legacy press, which does not report that Obama has acted to the detriment of our freedom and prosperity, has however jumped all over decade or two old allegations of "sexual harassment" purported to have been committed by GOP hopeful Herman Cain. Just remember that all that you hear from the dinosaur media is agenda-driven bias meant to harm Republicans and make Democrats look better than they actually are.

In the Mix

The race for the GOP Presidential nomination is in the first mile of a daunting marathon. Remember in spite all of the hype, not one vote that actually counts has been taken so far. The flavor of the day at one point was former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee who decided not to even run. Then, conservative superstar and short-term Alaska Governor Sarah Palin came to the fore, only to remain outside the process. Then ever so briefly, Minnesota US Representative Michele Bachmann became the leading Republican light after winning a non-binding straw poll in the state of her birth Iowa. Genuine libertarian (and blame America for September 11,2001 lunatic) Ron Paul won some subsequent non-binding straw polls before having his momentum sapped to the advantage of Herman Cain. Texas Governor Rick Perry came into the contest with a flourish only to have his love of illegal aliens cut his legs out from under him before his campaign could really launch. Rick Santorum has good ideas but has found no traction. Newt Gingrich has command of many of the issues but because he made very public common cause with Democrats on health care and global warming, Newt made certain his traction would forever remain on skates with GOP primary voters who tend to be more conservative than the public at large. Gary Johnson, another libertarian sort who was the governor of New Mexico and who advocates for decriminalized marijuana, has had his campaign stall. Former US Ambassador Jon Huntsman who represented Obama in China has flat-lined with his "moderate notions for a moderate America effort". So in spite of others making some waves including Herman Cain, whose surprising rise unleashed quick allegations of sexual harassment to sap his move forward just as it starts, doppelganger former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney remains the odds on favorite to secure the Republican nomination to vie against Barack Hussein Obama to be US President after 2012. Mitt Romney would, just as McCain did in 2008, give voters a real Hobson's choice of a pandering liberal Republican who imposed socialist health care on the state Massachusetts that he governed or the outright class-envy redistributionist who now holds the office and if reelected will finish the United States off. I guess I will grit my teeth and vote for slow decline over rapid destruction, but frankly, I would prefer to vote for an American resurgence as I did when I proudly cast my ballot for Reagan.

Another Enormous Scam

My sentiments regarding the "green economy" have already been expressed on this forum. Barack Hussein Obama and his cronies have attempted to supplant the "real" economy with one built on the fantasy of green energy being a viable replacement for coal and petroleum and the massive government subsidies to distort the market to make solar and wind power so. Hundreds of millions of our tax-confiscated dollars have been given to so-called "green" energy companies. These companies generally happen to be owned by contributors to the Democrat Party or even those with familial ties to that party. This kind of cronyism is suspicious in and of itself and already some of these companies are beginning to default. Unless and until some technological breakthrough occurs in "greening" our power sources or Americans embrace nuclear energy which post Fukushima seems doubtful, nothing will replace coal-fired plants though "clean" coal technology has made meaningful pollution reductions, or natural gas and gasoline.

Smearing Herman Cain

The Left is at it again- trying to take down real conservative opposition with warmed-over twenty year old allegations that rise nowhere near those that did not disqualify Bill Clinton from the US Presidency in the same era- this time released just in time to attempt to knock Herman Cain from his strong momentum that has given him a lead in recent polls in the race for the GOP nomination for the nation's highest office. Cain is being given the Clarence Thomas "soda can" type of treatment primarily because he is seen as a threat to the liberals currently in power, a strong, eloquent, and wise conservative Christian who also happens to be an "authentically black" man. Abortion-pushing Leftist women did not line up to denounce Bill Clinton for being a Lothario with a seemingly longstanding pattern of harassment. In fact, so long as Clinton backed abortion on demand, the National Organization of Women did not care how many of their sisters were personally harmed by Clinton's sexual excesses, but let a candidate stand against Roe and watch how vicious these same "ladies" can be. Herman Cain as a Republican candidate wears the bull's eye of so many, his GOP rivals, his Democrat opponents, and the dinosaur media to boot. Do not permit those who would destroy the country's very foundations to besmirch an honorable and capable man.

After Obama's Reelection

If the nightmare comes to pass, here is what I envision. Our Nobel-Peace laureate President Barack Hussein Obama will usher in world-wide war, not by purposeful action, but by permitting Iran to arm up and lash out with nuclear weapons, or with equal results, not supporting an existentially-threatened Israel when the Jewish State fearing an imminent attack has her hand forced and launches a unilateral preemptive strike against the Islamic Republic. Either course would engender catastrophic consequences for America and the rest of humanity but could very well happen if America's voters once again abandon good sense and stay with the drowning horse and rider in the middle of the torrent they so carelessly wandered into with grim domestic ramifications as well. With or without the World War III scenario, Obama's continuing economic mismanagement will spell disaster (only with WW III, that much worse). Economic dislocation and dissatisfaction is already bringing the so-called "Occupy" street demonstrations to life. These will morph into endemic street violence with those perceived to be financially secure targeted by the mob if Obama wins another term. When Obama celebrates his inauguration, he will set care rationing, death-hastening Obama Care in stone. Simply having Obama in office till 2016 will take America from double dip recession into either crushing stagflation, or perhaps a deliberate policy of currency inflation to pay down the essentially unmanageable debt the Federal government is accumulating bringing America toward hyperinflation, or simply remaining on the super spending, regulatory state path that could cause outright depression as in a return to 1929 vintage collapse. In any event, four more Obama years would be the opposite of rosy.

Weakness Invites Aggression

Living up to my recent theme, Islamic Jihad has launched a barrage of Grad rockets at Israel with fatal consequence, but what else could happen in a nation where those in charge have forgotten that the military defends the nation and not the other way around? More terror assaults are inevitable because Israel gave up on meaningful deterrence.

Just Saying "Thanks"

The United States embassy in Bosnia was attacked by an AK-wielding Muslim extremist. Is it not amazing that in a country that likely would not exist had the US not intervened to "protect Muslims", that a jihadist would try to murder Americans, who after all started wars against Serbs supposedly to save the Muslims of both Bosnia and Kosovo?

Robust and Aggressive

If Barack Hussein Obama continues to maintain the presence of US combat forces in Afghanistan, he must untie their hands by relaxing the near suicidal rules of engagement(ROE) and let our forces aggressively defend themselves and also go more on the offensive against those who would target our forces and those of our allies. I for one also do not like to witness American troops fighting and all too often dying under "international command", not being represented by their own commanders and spokesmen as "US soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, reservists, activated national guardsmen (and women), or coastguards fighting in American uniform under American officers and under our own flag" but instead being called members of ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) which serves not only to disguise and diminish their contribution and sacrifice but undercuts esprit de corps and natural patriotism as Americans. To hear mouthpieces speak of "ISAF members killed and wounded" in cases where from the beginning it was obvious that the casualties were entirely American must be an undue horror for family members left on tenterhooks wondering if their service member has died or been injured. The monetary cost and more importantly the blood sacrifice in Afghanistan has and continues to be inordinately borne by Americans and their loss should never be hidden from the US public or obscured by identifying them only as ISAF fallen. An unlucky thirteen more fell today. Here is their tragic tale as related by Amir Shah of the Associated Press linked through Yahoo: http://news.yahoo.com/us-official-13-americans-killed-afghan-bombing-132131947.html. Their blood should never be allowed to have spilled in vain. I have also just heard on ABC radio that one of our Canadian allies also lost his life in the same blast and three Australian soldiers were ambushed by an "Afghan soldier" who turned his gun on them. This articles was in no way meant to minimize the courageous contribution of real allies who bleed alongside our own troops but mostly to call for ROE sufficiently violent that those fighting the Taliban and al-Qaeda are able to protect themselves.

Moribund Hippy Upheaval

I happen to live in Nashville, the capital city of the state of Tennessee. As in a number of other cities, the sixties retread crowd and some fellow travelers of younger vintage have overtaken our state's Legislative Plaza. Their "demands" are varied and in any event, could not be fulfilled while retaining any aspect of the market-based capitalism which has been the engine of American prosperity. These protesters generally embrace the "Blame America First" and anti-war agendas. They have according to some reports used their camp for fornication and as an open latrine. The sane course of action would be to remove them with the minimal amount of force necessary. The Tennessee Highway Patrol embarked on exactly that action last night with professionalism and maximum restraint. Nashville's Night Court which is a city, not state institution, incomprehensibly released the radical so-called "occupiers". There is little organic support for the "urban campers" except among the relatively radical university crowd. Those Leftists making a spectacle of themselves now here in my hometown and elsewhere around the nation really do want to change America, but they have no inkling of how bad life here would be if their prescriptions were followed.

New Revolutionary Coif

A great deal of optimism has been sparked by the "Greek haircut", the measure that is hoped to preserve the fiscal footing of the Euro. The plan is supposed to institute a somewhat harsher austerity on the Greek people in exchange for which creditors are willing to half the amount of principal to be repaid as part of Greek national debt. The major hitch in the notion is the presumption that the Greek populace is willing to tolerate further cuts in what was their cradle to grave socialism (which was also replete with free lifetime education including college). Most of the citizens of Greece feel that they have already relinquished enough and many are ready to resist rather than accept more benefit cuts. On the Greek street, there have already been massive and violent protests that are likely to grow worse. Now, not only Black Flag anarchists and Communists will run riot on Athens' streets, but everyday Greek workers (many even from the public sector) could join the Molotov Cocktail throwers and bank burners. Those disaffected and alienated are no longer the few but the many who wrongly feel that they alone are suffering while the world elite have gone out of the way to protect those with wealth and privilege in Greece. The attitude among the riotous throng has started to resemble that of the Paris of 1789. The demonstrators in Greece would seemingly not be adverse to a little revenge a la Robespierre and care must be taken to avoid an explosion where the "Greek Haircut" circa 2011 does not become a "French Haircut" from the age of the guillotine.

A Certain Outcome

Any nation that projects weakness makes itself a target for attack. Whether that be America when the US punishes ICE agents for doing their duty or Israel when the Jewish State trades culpable criminals for innocents turned hostage, actions that suggest a country is not willing to employ the full measure of defense available to it tend to invite further attack. It should therefore come as no surprise that drug smugglers attempt to infiltrate America's borders every single day and that just yesterday rockets fired from Gaza began landing in Israel again. Just as the schoolyard bully pushes around the child least likely to resist, so too do terrorists or criminal gangs when countries bind their own hands when fighting back. A robust response to drug gangs calls for at the very least more agents with greater freedom of action and an expanded border barrier, the "fence" we have been told would be completed for years. In the case of Israel, as Tehran plots and Hezbollah and Hamas act as Iranian proxies, Israel must meet the force of falling Grad missiles with greater force that convinces people of Lebanon in the case of Hezbollah and the residents of Gaza that when it comes to Hamas, that the cost of supporting these terrorists exacts simply too high a price to endure. Only then, when the Arab populace turns against the murderers they have been shielding, will any possibility of peace start to prevail.

Presidential Pardon Now

Just as Ramos and Compean were eventually and rightly, belatedly pardoned by the last President Bush, President Obama should forthwith pardon Border Agent Jesus E. Diaz Jr. This righteous act after the travesty of an incomprehensible prosecution would spare Agent Diaz and his family separation, suffering, and huge expense. And it is the right thing to do.

Beggars the Imagination

A nation that abandons her own borders must no longer be considered a nation. Sovereignty defines nationhood. When a country places more stock in the demands of a neighboring country than in the needs and protection of her own citizens, that country becomes a geographic fiction with borders that are merely printed on paper but in reality, no longer secure anything or anyone. When your prosecutors drag your border enforcers into court and take their freedom away from them, border enforcement, by necessity, crumbles. To witness an example of this in action, please read Jerry Seper's excellent piece from The Washington Times: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/oct/25/border-agent-jaile-arrest-teen-drug-smuggler/?page=all#pagebreak.

Manipulating the Willing

The Left and their dinosaur media sycophants are baiting class warfare. A piece on a blog picked up on Yahoo is crafted to feed the hysteria and finely manipulates the numbers not to take into consideration the massive losses the so-called rich have sustained in and after the 2008 Wall Street Crash. You can read this little piece of Trotskyite propaganda by Zachary Roth from The Lookout here: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/numbers-income-top-one-percent-skyrocketed-over-last-153005722.html. The propagators of the Big Lie never have trouble inciting an already willing mob to do their evil bidding. By in large, those who prosper in America work for it and do not horde but share their wealth through the process of job creation, the kind of job creation so sorely lacking under government's increasingly intrusive, increasingly expensive and demanding grasp.

Another Craven Capitulation

America's foremost ally in the Middle East continues her path of self-destruction as Israel exchanges twenty-five (25) prisoners for a dual Israeli-American citizen Ilan Grapel, who Egypt holds hostage. Israel no longer possesses any credible deterrence, and after more than a thousand terrorists were exchanged for Gilad Shalit, it seems Israel has essentially even abandoned the rational pursuit of self-preservation. One would have hoped that as someone with American citizenship that the United States State Department would have moved heaven and earth to expedite the release of an American improperly detained, but in the event, Foggy Bottom remained content to have Israel carry the ball forward with Israel bearing the burden of ransoming Grapel's release. Should their be any doubt that had America squawked about Egypt seizing a young American without due cause that Grapel would have long since been released with no price having to have been extorted by Egypt from the Jewish State? Israel has unfortunately incentivized the taking of Jews as hostage and by their supine posture, ever more terrorism directed against Jews and Israel. When there is all profit and no cost for abducting Jews, why not seize a passel of them?

Rare Sports Column

If God did not create Tim Tebow, central casting would have.

Embracing Liberation Theology

Without Pope John Paul II, the Iron Curtain may never have fallen. John Paul II was one of the staunch anti-Communists of the era, just as crucial to overcoming Red tyranny as Ronald Reagan or Lech Walesa. Pope Benedict XVI (or those formulating the public persona for him) is quite the opposite, abandoning the Gospels for a redistributionist, social justice agenda and apparently embracing the neo-hippy mob that is befouling Wall Street. This Billy Hallowell piece from The Blaze is quite revealing:http://www.theblaze.com/stories/is-the-vatican-throwing-its-support-behind-occupy-wall-street/. The embedded video of Father Thomas Reese purporting to represent the Pontiff casts Pope Benedict with the hard Left. I wonder what the late, lamented Pope John Paul II would think of the Marxism being proclaimed in the name of his successor.

Rise of Islamism

The so-called Arab Spring has not brought freedom but a different sort of tyranny. Instead of being ruled by greed-driven autocrats, the newly "liberated" Arab nations are lining up as Islamist states. Instead of prosecuting political dissent, the emerging regimes will not countenance any practice not in conformity with Islamic Law. In Tunisia and probably Libya as well, the West has assisted in the creation of two more Sharia states that ultimately will be antithetical to Western norms. Do not for one moment surmise that warmth and gratitude will be the reward for our backing democracy, because democratic institutions will never take hold under a theo-political system that disdains the freedoms we hold most dear. Islam literally means "submission" and the Islamic regimes that are being born are inherently adverse to our concept of liberal democracy and individual rights.

Karzai the Lunatic

The mayor of Kabul who is also known as the President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai now contends that if the United States goes to war with Pakistan that Afghanistan will side with Pakistan. The irony here is rich as the only reason that Karzai is in power today is the US presence. The reason Karzai is alive now is because American forces have kept him so. Karzai is widely believed to have manipulated the outcome to produce victory in the last election. He is not beloved by the Afghan people and might well meet the same fate as Gaddafi if his American protectors came home. So Karzai would side with Pakistan, the same nation that has destabilized his own country and has overseen much of the terror that the Afghan people have faced. Words are cheap and Hamid Karzai, who is nothing more than a confused, corrupt puppet, is even cheaper.

A Despot's Ransom

Muammar Gaddafi was presumed to have looted Libya, but only now is the true degree of the pillage beginning to emerge. Most Libyans under the Gaddafi tyranny struggled at the survival level though regime confederates enjoyed the good life. The amount that Gaddafi actually stole is almost incomprehensible. If Paul Richter's report is not complete hyperbole, Gaddafi may have been the wealthiest individual the world has ever known. Mull over the article from Australia's The Age here:http://news.theage.com.au/breaking-news-world/gaddafi-salted-away-about-200-billion-20111022-1md9z.html. If the facts are as stated, all that lucre did not extend the tyrant's life a single breath.

Abdicating to Iran

Barack Hussein Obama is throwing in the towel in Iraq, which effectively cedes the field to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Well over half of the population of Iraq practice Shia Islam as do ninety percent of the people in neighboring Iran. They are not merely coreligionists but share an End Time mindset with the most influential and powerful extra-governmental group in Iraq already being Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army. Another indigenous Iraqi Shia group that has steadily risen is Hezbollah in Iraq which also acts on the behest of the Mullahs in Iran. By pulling up stakes now, Obama allows Iran to fill the power vacuum, with Shia believers in the Twelve Imam eschatology certain to gain a further foothold in a still fragile Iraq, which may well splinter along sectarian divides, with Kurds in control near and in conflict with Turkey, with Sunni fighting for their lives in the center of the country, and with much of the populace including the Shia "Marsh Arabs" giving natural fealty to Iran. Only the US troop presence had blocked Iran thus far and with American forces leaving, the gates are open to the most destabilizing and dangerous force in the world today, the aggressive jihadists of Iran (who also happen to be racing to produce nuclear weapons).

Entirely Misplaced Concern

The United Nations High Commission for Human Rights wants to investigate the fate that befell Muammar Gaddafi. Muammar Gaddafi merits no such consideration. He was an unrepentant mass murderer, one could say a "mad dog" killer but no rabid animal ever brought down a passenger-laden 747. Gaddafi was despised by the vast majority of the Libyan people who are rejoicing at his death. Justice was never dispensed by Gaddafi in life, but it was richly served in his passing.

Human Rights Farce

This evening, the BBC America news telecast had a representative of Human Rights Watch on to comment on the situation in Libya. Incredulously, this rights activist was concerned over the fate of the Libyan despot Muammar Gaddafi. Talk about what the Rolling Stones so aptly called "sympathy for the devil", this mouthpiece actually mentioned that if Gaddafi was "captured alive" and subsequently executed, taking his life could be considered a "war crime" and possibly referred to the International Criminal Court. If these nebbishes want to forever undermine confidence in the so-called system of international justice and multilateralism in the administration of law, they could not find a better way to do it than worrying about Gaddafi on what is self-evidently an internal matter for the Libyan people, who were after all, this living Lucifer's victims until their self-defense wiped him out.

Good Riddance Gaddafi

The butcher who controlled Libya for two generations has reportedly been killed. Muammar Gaddafi had been one of the globe's leading backers of terror, formerly a major sponsor of so-called movements of national liberation. Gaddafi's bloody hand had been seen as far away from Libya as the conflict in Ireland with Libyan armament and explosives being used by the Irish Republican Army to attack British forces and their Royal Ulster Constabulary allies, Protestant paramilitaries, and of course, innocent civilians. Libya was also implicated in the notorious Pan Am bombing over Lockerbie. Terrorists from around the world found sanctuary and trained in Gaddafi's Libya, but Gaddafi's worst crimes were reserved for the Libyan people. Gaddafi tolerated no dissent and had no time for due process in legal proceedings, leading to torture and outright murder across Libya during his time in control. If Gaddafi is actually dead, the Libyan people should rejoice in their triumph over dictatorship. Gaddafi well-earned the harshest punishment and Libya's people now evidently have gained their "pound of flesh".

An Endurance Test

Will we find ten minutes joy in one hundred years of suffering?

Without Requiring Debate

The Republican Presidential debate last night was designed by the dinosaur media to make the candidates seem small and petty so as to elevate the sinking stature of their "Chosen One", Barack Hussein Obama. The GOP aspirants were baited to go for each other's throat. In the event, the rhetoric was feisty, even combative at times, but the contestants did not by in large look weak, but strong, with real conviction in their beliefs and respective plans (so much as they were enunciated). Herman Cain defended his 9-9-9 Plan with passion and fact and America would certainly gain if the Federal tax system were simplified and the marginal rate of Federal income tax lowered. Cain's plan may not be perfect but appears vastly better than the labyrinthine Federal tax system as it exists today. A flat or fair tax carefully implemented would also be preferable to the enormous, indecipherable tax system under which we now suffer. As far as the proceedings went last night, none of the candidates said anything to disqualify themselves but the candidate who seemed most well-versed in the facts and at times seemed to be the calming influence in the room was Newt Gingrich whose campaign so far has gained little traction. Though the event was orchestrated by the main stream media puppet masters to harm the GOP, all of those seeking to secure the Republican nomination would still be vastly preferable to the man in the White House, Barack Obama, who is systematically destroying the foundations of our Republic.

Class Envy Demagogues

One has come to expect Democrats to roll out their class warfare rhetoric, de rigueur in every major race since Franklin Delano Roosevelt won the nation's highest office, but to hear Republicans tilling the same tired ground at this time should be shocking. At first, it appeared as though Virginia GOP Congressman Eric Cantor was simply off the reservation when he joined Democrats with populist bashing of "millionaires and billionaires", but then Republican Presidential aspirant Mitt Romney joined in the pillory the rich game (a wild irony as Romney is quite rich himself). With major GOP figures suddenly speaking of the wealth gap, with income inequality, and disparities that are inevitable in any economic system, there is even less to differentiate the Republican Party from the Democrat rabble-rousers. Every society has privileged classes, even the old Soviet Union, but free societies foster upward mobility through merit and effort while other systems maintain a closed high echelon with advancement only through connection (somewhat similar to the crony capitalism that Barack Hussein Obama has put into practice). It is discouraging to see Republican leaders march in virtual lockstep with the overt socialists who call themselves Democrats in promising to create more equal outcomes by socking it to the so-called "rich". No one has ever become a billionaire in America without creating (by necessity) wealth and jobs for others. Most of the nation's employment is created by those small business-owning millionaires who operate S corporations where they pay their business tax at the highest rate filing as individuals. America's "millionaires and billionaires" are the job creators, who if allowed to by the Federal government, will return prosperity to Main Street USA. These risk-takers, America's entrepreneurs, are now not just in the line of fire of Democrats but of the Republican Party, which should be watching their backs instead of reaching for their wallets.

Just a Possibility

After mulling over the horror that took place in our neighborhood Saturday night, suspicion arose about the placement of traffic signals that have caused increased congestion and more road hazard in the couple blocks around my home. During rush hours since the red lights were placed, it has become more difficult rather than less to exit our own driveways. Even an officer investigating the fatal wreck conceded that the stop light seemed to be unnecessary and has actually made navigating the area worse. In any event, I find it odd that those in the neighborhood were not surveyed or consulted before the traffic signals were erected. If there was a public hearing prior to the installation, it was not publicized in any meaningful way in which
neighbors were able to participate. My thought is that some Federal stimulus money had been allocated for some "make-work" jobs and that is how my neighborhood ended up with a traffic signal array no one who lives nearby wanted that has ultimately made road congestion worse, and perhaps, in some small way, even had a part in Saturday's deadly crash.

A Tragic Update

The website of local TV station WSMV is reporting that as I feared, a death occurred in the wreck near my home. Ernest Adams lost his life. Our condolences are extended to his family. The driver alleged to be at fault is in critical condition as I suspected she would be after watching her extricated from her Gold Infiniti Q30 with what are reported to be life threatening injuries. Police contend alcohol was found in her automobile and may have been a causal factor.

A Grim Collision

Last night around 7pm, a three car wreck happened in front of my immediate neighbor's house, about two hundred feet from my front door. I did not witness the accident itself but certainly heard the impact. I at first thought my ninety-year old father had fallen (or my mother who is younger but has a few afflictions of her own) and conversely, they thought I might have slipped in the shower. We called out to each other and quickly realized no one in the house had collapsed and my Mom yelled, "Must have been a wreck, I'll see". As she burst outside to see if she could aid anybody, I was urging, "Call 911", but as my Mom came back in, she said nearby drivers had immediately summoned help. In the event, I toweled off from the shower I had been taking and joined the bystanders outside. My neighbor in front of whose home the actual collision took place said his wife was given a baby to hold from the vehicle witnesses said had crossed three lanes of traffic to impale the driver's side of a car travelling in the proper direction. I never saw the motorist who did nothing wrong but received the brunt of the damage. I was told a nurse who happened to be driving by attempted CPR on this individual to no avail and the ambulance in which the body was placed appeared to be in no urgency to arrive at the trauma center. I have to presume sadly that this individual was dead at the scene. The driver with the infant in her old gold sedan may have been distracted by the baby or something else or had some medical issue which caused her to veer out of control and according to those who saw it actually cause the accident. She was removed from the car with the assistance of the "Jaws of Life", and I saw for myself that she unfortunately was in a critical condition (or worse). A third car that took a glancing blow from the spinning carnage also produced a casualty who appeared to be lucid and mostly functional but was also rushed away by a third ambulance. This was not the first wreck by any means near my property in the nineteen years I have resided at this home, but it did produce the first fatalities. A block away within the last month, a new array of two traffic signals have been installed and congestion has become a nightmare since the new lights came online. I do not contend that they are the proximate cause of last night's death(s) but the red lights may have been a factor. No one to my knowledge in the neighborhood was surveyed or consulted about adding the new traffic signals prior to their installation. When the bridge ices over in winter where the red lights are now deployed, there will surely be more wrecks as people will now have greater occasion to brake quickly on a frozen overpass as the signals change. Placing the stop lights there was ill-conceived, traps my family and our neighbors in our own driveways, and may have already within the first month of operation played a role in the first fatal accident here in at least two decades.

Iran's Rogue Agent

If Iran has in fact attempted to orchestrate assassination in America, one must ask "who" and "why". As to the who, is it possible that a party or powerful person within Iran who wants to bring about the rise of the mahdi (the Islamic version of an end-time messiah) as soon as possible, seeks to ignite World War III? The responsible party might not be either among the mullahs or the civil administration or could be a high ranking member of either. Someone attempting to embarrass, imperil, or overthrow Mahmoud Ahmadinejad might have initiated the plot. Conversely, someone plotting to bring down Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei could have started scheming. In any event, more definitive information needs to be assessed though it appears to have been a real threat. If Iran has any interest at all in maintaining the peace, they must ferret out the culpable parties and in the interests of justice, extradite them to the United States, where they will surely be treated more leniently than if Saudi Arabia ever captures them.

Graham Versus Obama

Barack Hussein Obama never met Ben Graham and probably would not recognize him if he had as Graham was considered to be the father of value investing. Graham believed in sound management practice while Obama is a friend and benefactor of the rent-seeking, lobbyist-flanked, politically-connected type of manager. Graham was firmly convicted that capitalism was the path to prosperity. Ben Graham assumed (at a minimum) fiduciary responsibility. Barack Obama emphasizes campaign contributions that seem to lead inextricably to the quid pro quo. If Barack Obama believes in any kind of capitalism at all, it is the crony-brand of capitalism that he abides alongside his basic socialist impulse. No, Barack Obama abjures Ben Graham and Milton Friedman too.

Not a Chance

Even the dinosaur media is now talking about Herman Cain and his surging popularity, but that in no way means that the GOP establishment (otherwise known as the Republican elites who helped give us the failed McCain campaign) will embrace Cain now or ever. Cain is anathema to the Rockefeller-wing and all those "moderate" kingmakers, because Cain is in no way beholden to them. These Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe types have more in common with the Kennedys than Cain and they have opposed him and the TEA Party ethos now driving the ground game of the party. Cain is self-made and by the bootstraps and will not kowtow to power brokers or play down the middle, split the difference games. Cain drives right which is the conservative direction the nation needs.

Wondering Out Loud

Why is it acceptable for the other debaters and the media to single out Herman Cain, who happens to be the sole African-American GOP Presidential contender, while Barack Hussein Obama received no such scrutiny when he was running for the 2008 nomination? There are double standards galore in politics but the difference between the rabid assaults on Cain and the kid glove treatment of Obama is glaring. Obama was (and remains) remarkably protected by the dinosaur media while Cain is being hunted.

Iran Must Pay

Iran seems to have once again violated international norms with a purported plot to murder the the Saudi and Israeli ambassadors to the United States while on American soil. If successful, this plan could have sparked regional war in the Middle East and should be treated as an attack on America. Iran remains the greatest threat to peace and stability in the world, and a nuclear Mullah State would only be that much worse. If Iran refuses to respect US sovereignty, there is no reason that America should respect Iran's. This murder plot may be the Zimmermann Telegram of the modern day, finally convincing Washington that there is no recourse but to declaw Tehran now.

Christians Under Siege

The "New Egypt" is vastly worse for Christians than their circumstance was under the regime of Hosni Mubarak, though even under Mubarak's rule followers of Jesus routinely faced discrimination, persecution, and occasionally murder. The Arab Spring has heralded new menace with affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood which has come to dominate the nation making it abundantly clear that non-Muslims remaining in Egypt will at best be regarded as dhimmi and could quite easily end up in the grave. Twenty-four Egyptians died in sectarian (read as anti-Christian) violence this weekend and prospects are that conditions for the religious minority in the land of the Pharaohs will only grow worse. Christendom must unite to shout to the powers that are emerging in Egypt "let my people go".

The Uninvited Guest

A tropical storm of sorts seems to be visiting Florida contemporaneously with my stay. Hope Florida will welcome me back, but I would understand if they did not. My first trip here in a half decade brings record precipitation, damaging winds, and millions (or more) in lost commerce. A hearty mea culpa if I am in any way responsible. Who knew a little rain dance would be so demoralizing to our fourth most populous state? Next time, I should visit Sedona and bring an umbrella.

Bringing the Deluge

After chronicling my experience in the Millennial Flood in Nashville in May 2010, I have taken to the export business of sorts, bringing ten inches of rain along with me to the Orlando area. Most people return to Nashville from Florida with a golden tan; it appears I will be floating back a tad pale and waterlogged.

Theme Park Wisdom

Never indulge in a large meal before boarding a ride boasting "heart-pounding G-force thrills", and pray the the couple in the car behind you did not just have the zesty, saucy enchilada with copious extra salsa? Do any gentle readers have any laundry suggestions as club soda did not remove whatever the lovely couple from Peoria ate?

The Sunshine Beckons

I have arrived in the Sunshine State just in time to be soaked in rain. Florida though is as lovely as ever.

Praise To Giant

The single most dominant figure in technology has died. Steve Jobs revolutionized a cutting edge industry in such a way as to bring what not too long ago was the stuff of science fiction into virtually every home. What used to be the realm of techies and geeks is approachable to everyone due to the genius Jobs' unique talent for innovation- making the unbelievably complex approachable, even user-friendly. Apple will undeniably suffer to some extent and Jobs will be sorely missed. Steve Job's like will not pass this way again.

Despot Does Destin

The "Despot" author may be taking a short leave of absence for the first time since this forum was initiated to contest the 2008 Obama campaign. I may turn this into a travelogue for a few days if the spirit moves me and the schedule of activity permits. I am not throwing in the towel, capitulating the hustings to angry, self-deluded left. I am merely recharging my batteries to prepare for the titanic struggle against those who will finish the nation off if they are reelected in 2012. Wish me bon voyage!

Fall From Olympus

How could a relatively minor nation with a small economy bring down the entire economy of the world? The elites have long sought a "global economy" and that creation actually started coming to the fore in the Americas with the George Herbert Walker Bush (Papa Bush implementing a "free trade alliance" to compete with the unifying Europe back in the 1980s where too few listened to H. Ross Perot and his giant sucking sound of America's still fading jobs disappearing) with the inception of the North American Free Trade Agreement coming into force to compete with the growing European-bloc being fully joined with a common currency, no tariffs or impediments to trade between European nations, and a shared trade policy amongst the Euro members. These large free-trade areas were meant to foster a growing shared prosperity with interdependence- one world where barriers were removed and prosperity would inevitably take hold. In the event, instead of all European economies rising to the efficiency of Germany, they slid to the insipid socialism of Greece. Instead of NAFTA lifting the Americas to the (formerly) thriving conditions of the United States, the US is dragged down while Mexico becomes a failed ultra-violent narco-state. The Greek tragedy is that the world succeeded in unifying economies to such an extent that a butterfly effect occurs when a tiny country having to borrow more and more from trade-bloc partners, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund to simply service ever-expanding debt, that logic dictates as only a minor player in finance, should not hold our destiny in its hands but in spite of being of apparently little consequence, is now bringing down the rest of us.

Dependency and Denial

Individuals and even nations find themselves on the slippery slope of dependency. There are several sorts to explore. A person may be dependent on various substances including intoxicants to make it through the day. This type of dependency may ultimately destroy the individual and be gravely injurious to those who care about him. Then there is dependency by the able-bodied and able-minded individual on "benefits" from the state which may be every bit as destructive as substance abuse by sapping the initiative and eventually destroying the dignity and diminishing the productive capacity of what could otherwise be a contributing member of society to a member of the permanent underclass, a parasite, what I have previously termed on this forum "dole dwellers". Then there is dependency between and amongst states. Greece has become a ward of the rest of Europe and a crushing burden on the financial system of the free world, financing debt service with more never to be paid back loans while imposing half-measures of long overdue austerity after witnessing the creation of a cradle to grave welfare state that never was (and never could be) self-sustaining. Germany primarily has attempted to save the Greeks but patience and resources are running thin and Germans may soon right off their Greek dependency basket case as a total loss which would likely spell the end of the Euro. The last aspect of dependency to be discussed herein is American dependency on foreign petroleum, largely from places that do not wish America well (most notably the Muslim nations of OPEC and Venezuela, which under the dictator Hugo Chavez, shares antipathy toward the USA). I am not one for pie-in-the-sky green energy ideas that will never materialize under real-world market conditions and are failing even with enormous government-subsidies behind them, but I am for drilling domestically where ever oil might be reasonably obtained. The last dependency mentioned is the easiest to end and to do so, Sarah Palin said it best, "drill, baby, drill".

Hidebound Democrat Ideology

The political party that for the moment controls the US Senate and Presidency, the Democrats, are adamant that no progress on healing the American economy will be permitted until the Republican agree to play the class envy game and make economic war on the rich. The Democrats in Congress are mostly ideologues and Barack Hussein Obama turns out to be nothing of a pragmatist or compromiser but a classic redistributionist above all else. Here, Obama differs from his last Democrat predecessor Bill Clinton in that Clinton placed his personal political viability above his socialist leanings while Obama does the opposite. The dinosaur press will present the GOP as obstructionists and will portray Republicans as the barrier to agreement, but those Americans observing the process will recognize that "tax the rich" as fiscal policy is no way to revive the economy or spark the kind of hiring and business expansion America will need to rebound from the sinking domestic economy. Only lower marginal tax rates, lower capital gains tax, and relaxing crushing government regulation will do that.

Lest We Forget

Across the political spectrum, from the American Civil Liberties Union to the Council on American-Islamic Relations to Constitutional fetishist and Republican Presidential candidate Texas Representative Ron Paul, the "assassination" of Anwar al-Awlaki is being denounced. Anwar al-Awlaki happened to be born in New Mexico which would typically have conferred the full rights and protections of US citizenship, but what the civil libertarians are missing is that al-Awlaki had to know that he was among America's most wanted men. Just like a criminal fleeing an armed robbery who refuses to let pursuing officers see his (empty) hands, al-Awlaki was well aware he was being pursued and had reputedly even previously survived a drone-launched rocket attack that had just missed him. If al-Awlaki had wanted to ensure his own survival at least through whatever criminal proceedings that would have been launched against him, he could have given up his role recruiting suicide attackers for al-Qaeda and simply presented himself to any US consulate or embassy, who would gladly have taken him into American custody. Anwar al-Awlaki decided he would wage war against the country of his birth. He chose to live as a terrorist and consequent to his own conduct, died like one.

More Dangerous America?

One thing that Democrats claim to be good at (and incidentally always claim Republican budget cuts will harm) is food safety. Sadly, recent events seem to have put the lie to that with a listeria outbreak killing more Americans than any food-borne illness since an outbreak caused by cheese more than a decade ago. As of now, at least sixteen deaths are attributed to tainted cantaloupe. In the wake of this tragedy, there is even more cause for concern with yet another product being recalled for possible listeria contamination, this time True Leaf Romaine lettuce. With trillions of dollars in the Federal budget, the least the government could do would be to assure what we eat will not kill us.

A Safer America?

The United States has succeeded in eliminating one of al-Qaeda's chief motivators of lone wolf terror attacks against the United States. Anwar al-Awlaki was the inspiration for several acts of jihad, most notably the Fort Hood Massacre. Several failed attempts to inflict damage on America were attributed to the American-born jihadist, who had survived other attempts against his life. There will certainly be other terror-masters attempting to take his place, but for the moment at least, those in the Homeland may be a little more secure.

Spare Yousef Nadarkhani

For the second time on this forum, I am compelled to implore a Muslim country to not put a Christian to death for following his conscience. This time it is the Islamic Republic of Iran that threatens the life of Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani not for any crime beyond refusing to repudiate his Christian belief. Once before, I had to beg for an endangered believer, on February Seventh of this year when I pleaded on behalf of Said Musa who thankfully was not murdered under the color of Islamic religious authority but allowed to leave Afghanistan. Iran has just garnered some degree of good will by allowing two American hikers who had lost their way and been detained for more than two years by the Islamic Republic to bond out and leave the country. Iran could earn even more respect from the family of nations by showing mercy one more time and allowing the Reverend Nadarkhani to live, even if he is exiled- with he and his family banished from Iran. The one act that is sure to heighten tension and further isolate Iran would be the execution (which would be no more than state-sanctioned murder of this husband and father, this guiltless man). Making Lousy Decisions

Is the Obama administration marked by theory over practice or is the constant stumbling not a case of simple bumbling at all but a plan to take a nation deemed guilty and overfed down a peg? Is Barack Hussein Obama a "refugee professor" lost outside his ivory tower, or the most calculating strategist the hard Left has ever had? The great social leveler Obama could be inflicting deliberate damage to what he was taught was imperialist America during his early association with his Marxist mentor Frank Marshall Davis in his adolescence in Hawaii and helping to complete the mission of his radical Chicago friend Bill Ayers who was active as a Weatherman terrorist. Obama may in fact be quite competent in achieving precisely what he wishes to do, which is bad news for America's patriots but would hearten leftists the world over.

Incisive Campaign Analysis

It seems that New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie is sticking to his guns and will not enter the race (this cycle at least) for the US Presidency. That is a shame as Christie would no doubt have been a large presence in the debates (and anywhere else for that matter). With epic rates of overweight Americans and clinical obesity so pervasive throughout the country, Christie was a candidate who would really look like America. Governor Christie could even have had a really unique Vice Presidential selection in his corner, Jenny Craig.

Federal Black Hole

The dinosaur media, whose remaining function seems to be to serve as spin masters for Barack Hussein Obama, are trying to pull straws out to burnish the sagging reelection prospects for the flailing Presidency. The latest attempt to bolster Obama was to shill increasing traffic congestion as sign of an improving economy. Evidently, gridlock is about the only "good" news that the main stream media can now use to hype Obama's non-achievements as some sort of pretend progress. Anyone care to guess where traffic delays supposedly signifying better economic times have spiraled the most? The Washington, D.C., area where the Federal government has metastasized like a cancer that is killing its host, in this case the rest of the nation. Washington is the great, all-consuming void where your hard earned dollars go to be frittered away.

You Hungry Yet?

Is it just me or does it look like potential GOP Presidential aspirant Chris Christie look like he has consumed some of the other candidates? He reminds me of an "Austin Powers" character with an unmentionable name that now also emblazons a wine label who kept saying "Get in my belly". If the sitting (far too much sitting by the looks of him) New Jersey Governor actually declares and secures the Republican nomination, it is a good thing that there will be no actual "race" because the Christie probably could not run a block.

When Greece Defaults

Greek default will certainly cause the rest of the world to fall into recession and may push the globe into outright economic depression. It would almost count as miracle if Greece somehow staves off bankruptcy as a nation. The consequence of that one relatively small nation defaulting may be the end of the unified economic and currency system for Europe, but Main Street USA will not be able to escape the consequences either. The economy of the United States is on anything but a strong footing but America is a rock relative to basket case Europe. If Greece can not sustain her government debt, what will happen if the other so-called PIIGS (those being Portugal, Italy, Ireland, the aforementioned Greece, and Spain) with their fragile economies start to fall? If one or more of the PIIGS stagger, there may be no saving the rest and Italy alone is simply too large to bail out.

The Petri Dish

Much of the world is trying to grow a new state, and we are left to speculate on the nature of that polity Palestine. Those agitating for the new Palestine are planning to carve the state out of Israel, a nation with a history and track record that stems from an ideal called Zionism, in which an egalitarian state would be formed, seeking to bring prosperity to all her citizens by making the desert bloom. Those fomenting the loudest for one more Arab Muslim state greeted Mahmoud Abbas on his return from the United Nations with cheers of "with our blood and our souls" we will liberate "from the river to the sea", leaving no room for Jewish neighbors. The intentions of the Palestinians for their coming state remain unconcealed and are clear. A state conceived in hate wants to implement ethnic cleansing and genocide and most of the nations of the world will vote to carry out these aims, in a tacit endorsement of religiously-motivated murder.

The Bough Breaks

Palestinians have once again demonstrated that no peace is possible with the bloody-handed slaughter of a young father and his utterly defenseless and innocent infant son. More on the atrocity is available on here http://www.theblaze.com/stories/israeli-father-baby-killed-in-terrorist-attack-after-palestinians-threw-rocks-at-their-car-causing-it-to-overturn/ from Glenn Beck's excellent The Blaze website but almost nowhere else in the American or European press. The dinosaur media would not want to harm their latest cause celebre, the creation of a Palestinian state.

Perry's Lackluster Locution?

Did stumbling for or over a few words cost Texas Governor Rick Perry the Florida Republican Presidential straw poll? I would contend that it was not how Perry spoke but what he said that alienated straw poll participants. John McCain had to backpedal from his overt pandering to illegal aliens to secure the GOP nomination that eventually led to his defeat by Barack Hussein Obama in the 2008 Presidential election. Republican conservatives really do not want alien amnesty or even tuition breaks for sneak-ins. They will not vote for a Mitt Romney with a Southern accent.

A Closet Marxist?

A closet Marxist whispers to his confederates, "we must take that from the rich." An overt Marxist shouts it. Has Barack Hussein Obama come out of the Marxist closet?

All or None

Former US President Bill Clinton declared that one man was to blame for the failure to achieve peace in the Middle East:"Benyamin Netanyahu". The interests of truth and fairness seldom seem to cloud the disgraced Clinton's judgement. (Is "disgraced" too harsh a word for the man who sought to redefine the meaning of "is", who made the blue dress the subject of titters, and who unintentionally made "Lewinsky" a household name?) If fact still matters, the actual reason peace has not been sealed has nothing to do with who leads Israel, but the nature of Islam. Islam is marked by maximilism and triumphalism in the religion itself? Name one nation where Muslims have the upper hand where tolerance prevails? The source of the conflict is no mystery. It can easily be seen even in the comments of Mahmoud Abbas in his historic comments to the United Nations. Far from hiding intentions, Abbas declared to the world at the UN that he would not recognize Israel "as a Jewish state". Abbas whose doctorate is (literally) in Holocaust denial and who arranged the financing of the Munich Olympic Massacre remains determined that no Jews will be permitted in the new Palestine when that state forms. The reason Mr. Clinton for the absence of peace has nothing to do with Mr. Netanyahu and everything to do with the nature of the ultimate aim of the vast majority of Muslims, who will never accept the existence of Israel as the Jewish State.

Bit More Slime

With plenty of real problems from terrorist threat to ongoing war to economic collapse, the media this week has been hyping a satellite falling in the most dire terms. The tumbling missile was reported to weigh as much as a school bus and said to stand a one in thirty-two hundred chance of "hitting you". This threat was described as greater than being struck by lightning, which was described as one in one hundred thousand, or winning the Powerball lottery, which was said to be around one in a few billion. After trying to find a neighbor with a bomb shelter from the old fear of Soviet nuclear fallout era after all the media exaggeration, I was greatly relieved this morning when ABC let the cat out of the bag that the odds were actually one in twenty-one trillion of pieces of the falling spacecraft actually hitting any particular individual. That is a bit different than the hyped number of one in thirty-two hundred that the media had repeated over and over- is it not?

Palestine's Eager Supporters

The old adage says, "a man is known by the company he keeps." That could also, I suppose, be said of nations. The nascent Palestine has some interesting friends. North Korea, the last Stalinist state on earth, built on slavery and murder, is all for creating the world's newest polity. This is of course the same North Korea that the UN waged war on a couple of generations back after their unprovoked aggression against South Korea. Syria, whose forces are busying themselves with slaughtering their own people in the streets, is a hundred percent for the new Palestine. Iran, which is readying a nuclear attack on Israel, is one of the staunches backers of a new Palestine. That is not to say every country that is pushing for Palestine to be carved out of Israel is a wholly evil entity, but chances are that at some point in their history, all the nations driving the formation of what is destined to be a terrorist state, have ignored human rights, trampled over their own people, or really put it to the Jews, just like Palestine will when it unfurls the flag of the world's newest nation.

Tightening the Screw

The most august world body, that palace of peace, the United Nations is set to turn on a tiny beleaguered member state that has been under constant siege and existential threat since 1948. That state is Israel and the Jewish people who have first claim there fell under attack even before the creation of Israel. Anti-Jewish pogroms were common in Mandatory times and the British authorities then did more to prevent the Jews from protecting themselves than they ever did to thwart violence against the Jews. The historical hatred felt by others for the Jewish people sadly now seems as pronounced as it has ever been. The so-called Palestinians should not feel heartened that they are nearly universally loved or that their is a superior claim to justice in their cause. The fact remains that the Jewish State is despised and delegitimized because the non-Jewish world holds the small remnant of people who introduced monotheistic morality in bitter contempt.

Brand New Passenger

A blessed event occurred on a commercial flight originating in the Philippines. A pregnant passenger went into labor and delivered her baby before the flight landed. It is not known if the airline billed the mother's credit card for a second seat or how quickly the TSA examined the surprise flier.

Compared to Whom?

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the sitting Chair of the Democrat National Committee, which must be an unenviable position at the moment. Representative Schultz alternates between praising Barack Hussein Obama and blaming the last President Bush and Republicans for all the nation's deficiencies. Obama has done such wonderful work where exactly? Are most Americans in a better economic condition now as opposed to nearly three years through the George W. Bush first term? Schultz is either a very poor magician, a good conjurer trying to pull off an impossible trick (fooling an aware and awake majority), or delusional. The inmates of Bedlam could not have done more harm to America if they were controlling our direction from the Oval Office than Obama has.

An American Abstention

Is it possible that the United States will simply abstain from both or either General Assembly or Security Council votes regarding the creation of a new nation of Palestine? I contend that it is indeed possible that Barack Hussein Obama will either wash his hands of an action he innately favors but does not want his finger prints on, that being the creation of a Palestine overtly intent on supplanting the Jewish State or even worse, that Obama believes he has lost Jewish support already anyway and like James Baker allegedly once said those people "don't vote for us anyway" and Obama is not concerned with further alienating a group he sees no way to win back. Either way, an American failure to veto a Palestine conceived in hate and bent on genocide will not only harm Israel but the Palestinians themselves, the region as a whole, and ultimately the world.

And Hilarity Ensued

The Federal Reserve of the United States plans a quantitative easing, not QE3 but QE2a. If anyone is smart enough to explain the mechanism of how this will rescue the US economy, please share in the comment section. The plan such as it is may be seen here on CNBC in an article by Patti Domm: http://www.cnbc.com/id/44556652. The plan reeks of smoke and mirrors and continued deceit in an attempt to prop up public confidence.

Stating the Obvious

Barack Hussein Obama is so consumed with class envy that he is willing to have the US economy languish to fulfill redistributionist ends. No matter how much socialists wish otherwise, only wealthy individuals have the wherewithal to actually hire people. The million dollar income crowd that Obama is determined to bring down a peg incorporates the vast majority of small business owners who operate as Subchapter S corporations under the Federal tax code. Taking more of their earnings in taxes only cripples their ability to create much needed private sector jobs. Attacking employers with a higher tax burden does not foster a healthier economy and only makes it more difficult for unemployed Americans to find work.

Home Front Concern

Of late, my focus has been on war and foreign affairs, but now, once more, domestic issues merit consideration. Barack Hussein Obama will introduce his "Buffet Tax" for Americans still fortunate enough to have earned a million dollars in a tax year as part of his class envy game plan. Banks are very reluctant to lend (in fact, not lending now in most instances) so job creators are forced to self-fund their expansion and any additional hiring. If taxes are raised, there will by necessity be even less job creation as potential employers in the small businesses that traditionally create new hiring will be forced to pay more taxes and consequently, will have that much less with which to fund new jobs. To spark recovery, now is the time for less taxation not more but that would not comport with those whose aim is to wage jihad on success.
