Hitting a Single

From my prospective, President Trump did not hit a homerun with his State of the Union, but he did not strike out either. Trump made the mistake of trying to reach across the aisle, which can not work in this climate because the Democrats and even establishment Republicans like soon to be departing Arizona Senator Jeff Flake hate Trump and think of him as the devil-incarnate. Why sell out your base to pander to those who hate you now and always will hate you? They will gladly pocket Trump's concessions on immigration but will still be determined to impeach him. Trump did spell out how his tax reform and cutting regulation has helped the economy, but even that rang a little hollow to many after a colossal loss in US markets the day of the speech. Trump tried to be unifying and uplifting, but around half the country despises him so much that they will never hear those messages.

State of Union

If Donald Trump keeps his campaign promises, the State of our Union will be strong. If Trump continues to back away from what he pledged to do for America, the country will break. Ironically, if Trump now reaches out to the Democrats, his reward will be impeachment by them.

A Predictable Disappointment

I was all-in for the authentic conservative Ted Cruz in the 2016 primaries. I believed Donald Trump was another East Coast liberal saying what he thought he had to in order to secure an election victory. Trump promised a secure Southern border and no amnesty for illegal aliens. It now looks as if he is going to grant an amnesty much larger than Obama did. Trump did withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord, which punished American industry and hurt our economy to remedy the chimera that is man-caused climate change. Now, returning after rubbing shoulders with the international elite in Davos, Trump is selling out his voters once again by saying the US is open to rejoining the climate change treaty once again, which would have a crippling effect on American business. I voted for Trump based on the campaign promises he made. Unfortunately, Trump is now breaking those promises.

Great- Sick Again

I have what might be stomach flu or food poisoning. This is as much of a blog post as I am able to crank out at the moment.

Climate with Logic

If everyone in the world wanted winter to be warmer and agreed to a plan to move the thermometer up a few degrees, what would the plan be to implement this deliberate warming? You see there is nothing humanity can do collectively to warm the earth up a few degrees even if everyone on earth made a concerted effort to do so. Weather changes constantly, and climate changes from Ice Ages to droughts, but man is not able to manipulate the climate that is controlled by forces larger and more powerful than all humanity.

Another Sell Out

Donald Trump campaigned with "angel parents". These were people whose children had been killed by illegal aliens. Trump is spitting in their faces after using them to win election with his illegal alien amnesty. Trump campaigned viciously against Marco Rubio saying "Little Marco" would allow amnesty, which is just what Trump is doing (and Rubio would have done as well). Trump lied and claimed Ted Cruz would grant amnesty. Cruz would not have done so. Trump is what I always feared and suspected he would be. He is a big-spending social liberal of the Rockefeller Republican vein.

The Warped Generation

Can you blame the youth of today who have been indoctrinated that Republicans and corporations want to kill them for believing the indoctrination? Can you blame young people for believing the global warming hype they have been exposed to their whole lives? They have never heard facts that conflict with the lies they were taught, and when they hear these facts, they need to run to "safe spaces" where the lies they have been brainwashed into believing are reinforced. It could be compared to the Hitler Youth in a way as the young Nazis really were convinced that the evil they were doing was good.

Young and Dumb

I heard about a survey that said voters, age twenty-four and under, despise President Trump. Their elders, who see how much the economy is strengthening under Trump, love him. Unfortunately, one area the Left has been very successful is indoctrinating students to be good Leftists.

Trump Won Shutdown

The Democrats would not have caved so quickly on the shutdown if they had not realized the tremendous public relations damage it was doing to them. Trump gave up nothing to reopen government. Now the Democrats look like they have sold out their own Leftist base, who wanted the Democrats to fight for the illegal aliens.

Warped Values Party

The Democrats for years have favored illegal immigrants over those who jump through all the hoops to try to immigrate legally. Now, the Democrats are favoring eight hundred thousand so-called "Dreamers" over the three hundred million plus Americans who rely on their government to be in full operation on their behalf and not in a Democrat-imposed shutdown. This is not the only warped aspect of the Democrats. They are the party that fights to prevent any restriction on abortion-on-demand, and wants transgenders to have access to our locker rooms and bathrooms in schools, gyms, and stores.

Something We Ate?

My daughter, wife, and I are battling the stomach flu (if there is such a thing). Our toddler had projectile vomiting, the wife was laid up in bed, and poor Papa was throwing up as well. I hope we are over the worst of it. I guess the government shutdown is to blame.

Shutdown Changes Nothing

I woke up this morning and the sun was shining. The birds were singing. The electricity was on and the shower flowed. I don't think anything changed for my family when the Federal government shut down at midnight.

The Democrat Shutdown

The looming government shutdown has only one culprit, that is the Democrat Party. These DC Democrats are determined to thwart President Trump and have the ability to do so by using the filibuster in the US Senate. The Democrats are willing to crash the markets and tank the economy because they believe it will bring them back to the majority in Congress and ultimately back to the Presidency. Assign blame where it lies and remember when you vote.

Believe Own Lies

The mainstream anti-Trump media and the Trump haters seem to really believe their own Trump-Russia collusion fantasies and their Trump incompetent Twenty-Fifth Amendment malarkey. If any collusion had occurred, do you not think that the Mueller investigation with seasoned investigators and virtually unlimited resources would have discovered it out by now? If Trump was somehow incapacitated, do you not think it would be obvious by now with all the time Trump interacts before the camera for all to see?

Springing to Action

In cold weather states, nothing could function without extensive snow and ice removal which is routinely implemented by states, municipalities, and most private business. If Minnesota or New Hampshire did not rapidly implement action during winter storms, not much could function in those states. There is less harsh winter weather in Southern states, consequently, there is less need for removal equipment. I do not blame government or business in Southern climes for not being as prepared as their more Northerly neighbors, but it would be nice if side roads could be cleared before the sun thaws them naturally in Tennessee.

Waiting for Spring

Several Nashville businesses that have shut their doors in consecutive snowstorms must be yearning for an end to winter. We have had vastly worse winter events than these two snows that did not close businesses. Of course, it helped back in the day that so many merchants lived above their stores or at least within walking distance. My grandparents only had to trudge six blocks through snow and ice to open Gil's.

A Winter War?

How can a nation where cities are paralyzed by a little snow and ice expect to prevail in a war against Red China, Russia, or perhaps even North Korea? In World War II, America had robust civil defense but since the end of the Cold War, America has devoted scant and insufficient resources to protecting the civilian populace from a potential weapons of mass destruction attack. We have not as a nation even spent the few billion dollars necessary to harden our electronic infrastructure against an electromagnetic pulse attack.

They All Know

There are certain countries no want wants to move to and no one wants to stay in, and however President Trump characterizes them, he could not be too harsh. These places are not demi-paradise but hell-on-earth. People migrate to slightly less odious hellholes, just to escape these unrelenting hellholes. Haiti is the worst such hellhole in the Americas. I realize that sometimes the truth hurts.

Snow Stops Nashville

My hometown of Nashville, Tennessee was more or less brought to a standstill by an inch or so of snow, or rather the fraction of an inch of ice underneath it. Schools closed, which happens down here, but more surprising, many businesses closed as well. Business has certainly changed. When my family was running wholesale and retail establishments in decades past, they opened the doors, even in our rare blizzards.

Calling Haiti Right

If Haiti was not how Trump reputedly characterized it, why have so many Haitians fled it? When Haiti rebelled against France starting in 1791, they killed every French white male and most white French women and children there. Haiti has been impoverished and disease-ridden ever since. How many people have you heard talking about wanting to take a tropical vacation to Port-Au-Prince? Haiti has the highest incidence of AIDS in the Western Hemisphere. Haiti has the highest infant mortality rate in the Western Hemisphere. Haiti has the lowest life expectancy in the Western Hemisphere. Haiti has the lowest literacy rate in the Western Hemisphere. Haiti means "Hades"- that is Hell.

Out for Self

Virtually every politician says he or she only wants to serve the best interest of their voters. What these politicians really do once they are elected is to serve themselves. I had hopes Trump was rich enough and well-known enough that he really was all-in for his voters, but he is betraying the patriots who believed and backed him in favor of the globalists and the foreign horde they have been bringing in as their source of cheap labor.

Stabbed in Front

If Donald Trump permits amnesty for illegal aliens he will have betrayed his voters like no other US President ever has. His base will remember how he sold them out in subsequent elections.

Football National Champion

A freakish, almost unheard of event has taken place. The University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team has won the national championship of major college football. Underdogs in virtually every game, the overmatched, plucky little Alabama players somehow managed to overcome all challenges (save Auburn) to somehow prevail. And they always exemplified class while doing it- especially Bo Scarbrough. Oh wait- the Tide were favorites in every game they won and are pretty much a pro team in college uniforms- never mind.

Crash and Turn

So long as the economy is strong and US markets rising, Trump stands a good chance of securing reelection. If the markets or US economy sour, Trump is toast.

Goodbye Cousin Johnny

We have lost one of the greats. He was like the characters Gary Cooper portrayed with a quiet courage but none of his heroics were scripted or a fantasy on the silver screen. Every time I look towards the moon I will think of my cousin the astronaut John Young.

Worthless United Nations

Iran is immunized from consequence at the United Nations because a majority of the member states are themselves tyrannical. It is long past time that the US leaves the UN and the UN is forced out of the US. America should join with like-minded democracies to create a new multilateral body to resolve disputes and promote peace in a manner that respects and protects the rights of the individual worldwide.

New Iranian Revolution

The United States should support the Iranian people in their effort to oust the corrupt and murderous mullahs who subjugate them while spreading terror around the world. America's Central Intelligence Agency should be channeling lethal weapons to those willing to fight their oppressors in Iran. Make Persia great again! Depose the theocratic tyrants.

Not Nuclear Winter

Our Little Ice Age is not nuclear winter, but it is plenty cold enough. It has not killed millions, but it has already proven deadly to several people. I can not wait for spring.

National Championship Game

I am glad a Southeastern Conference team will win the national title. I think it would be nice if the winner of the national championship game would play one more game against undefeated Central Florida so there could be no doubt who the national champion is.

The Bowl Season

Amateurs playing football for a scholarship or the joy of the game tend to be much more pleasurable to watch than the pampered professional players who are paid millions of dollars to play. I have not seen many college players kneeling during the anthem or demonstrating a grudge against their own country the way a number of pro players have.
