America Was Attacked

Somehow, less than eleven years after the event, some Americans are ready to bury their head in the sand. On this Memorial Day, we can not as a nation forget the brutal attack on Manhattan of September 11, 2001, where innocent civilians were slaughtered in the thousands and the assault on the Pentagon that same infamous day. A nation at peace was thrust into our ongoing conflict when we were assailed by atavists from Afghanistan. The United States can never go back to the isolationist complacency it enjoyed on September Tenth, Two Thousand One, just as we never could or should have returned to a December 6, 1941 mindset before Pearl Harbor awakened us from our REM-state slumber. Peace is the dream that is only earned when some of our own heroes rest atop the enemy their sacrifice helped vanquish.
