Simply Standing Pat

What if Putin decides to advance no farther, and Russia entrenches in the Ukraine where it has gained ground? Do we sanction them forever? Do we exclude Russia from the community of nation's so long as Putin remains in control? I would conclude so long as Putin remains their dictator, Russia must be isolated.
