An American Son

Kyle Rittenhouse is a civic-minded young man who went to help a neighboring community. I do not think in a million years that he crossed the border from his nearby home in Illinois into Wisconsin to harm anyone. In retrospect, carrying an AR-type rifle may have made him more of a target rather than less, because members of the rioting mob I am sure would have liked to have gained control of such a powerful weapon, but I do not fault Kyle in the least for shooting criminals that were attacking him. In some ways, he is like a patriotic soldier who volunteers to defend the country inasmuch as he was putting himself at risk to protect others. I hope he is fully cleared of all criminal liability and civil liability for trying to do the right thing.
