Rain Time Again

Since May 2010 and my hometown Nashville Tennessee's epic flood, I have been inundated by record rains in Florida, Arkansas, South Carolina, Kentucky, and now massive rains in Nashville again. I should travel to drought-afflicted areas around the globe; I may bring my travelling monsoon with me.

A Transparent Ploy

Barack Hussein Obama has delayed the onset of the Affordable Care Act (better known as Obama Care) for businesses until after the 2014 mid-Presidential term elections. Implementation for individuals will not be postponed, but businesses and by extension, their employees and their customers who will be paying higher prices to pay for newly engendered and higher health costs will be spared the pain until after Democrats have their crack at winning the US House of Representatives and controlling every branch of the Federal government.

Suez Canal Threat

A huge concern with tumult in Egypt is maintaining the access to and security of the Suez Canal. Egypt is not a major producer of oil but much of the region's petroleum does transit through the Canal. Any number of radical forces would love to injure the welfare of the Egyptian people and push the cost of gasoline up all over the world by sabotaging the easier route that man-made marvel provides. Further international intervention in Egypt might ensue if the Suez Canal comes under threat.

Worst Case Egypt

Morsi leading Egypt meant Islamist triumphalism as national policy. Al-Qaeda, with its nihilistic aggression, is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood from which Morsi also sprung. The Muslim Brothers are pragmatists though who practice taqiyya to gain and hold power and to try to boost their international standing. This in no way makes the Brothers a force for good, but an even more evil force is simmering in Egypt and could grow in power. This force is the Salafi movement which wants to return the Islamic world to a seventh century world of literal Koranic law where modernism is essentially proscribed and no compromise can be made with the infidel. Morsi is bad for the Egyptian people and the world, but Salafists would be even worse.

Better or Worse

With the tumult rocking Egypt, a new government could emerge in Cairo. If Morsi is forced out, the military might rule as a caretaker until elections are held, or could maintain power for itself. The Egyptian people in any election are likely to support Islamist candidates, and virtually all candidates who could draw popular support are anti-West, adamantly against America, and determined to destroy Israel as a Jewish state. In any fair election, Egyptians will vote themselves another sharia-based dictatorship because Muslim belief demands submission and while achieved in a popular vote and through democracy of a sort, this submission will always be incompatible with human freedom.

The Horse Butchers

Barack Hussein Obama won the US Presidency with the American Left convinced he was the answer. Animal rights proponents were generally heartened that a mean, old Republican had been defeated and a like-thinking Democrat would hold the nation's highest office and would defend animals with executive power. Well, Obama has pushed the "Green Agenda" and as a result, the United States has never had more windmills constructed to generate electricity (of which, they are not a reliable source), but my oh my, they do a wonderful job of extinguishing avain life, including many birds considered endangered. Then, there is Obama's commitment to be the science President. Obama has backed the sham science of man-caused global warming, but has ended the real science-gathering force of manned flight launched by NASA, as Obama ended the Space Shuttle program with no American replacement, leaving the US dependent on foreign-launchers, primarily Russia, to carry American astronauts into space. Obama has just allowed another betrayal to the environment and animal lovers to take place with his US Department of Agriculture permitting the opening of an American slaughterhouse for horses. Horses are a noble animal that belong in a pasture and not on a plate. The United States has an equine tradition dating back to Paul Revere's ride before the Declaration of Indepence and we are not honoring that history by permitting horse meat to be sold for human consumption. Who Really Cares?

With issues of great moment rocking the world, including the disintegration of Syria and the evident rekindling of revolution in Egypt, ABC Good Morning America used valuable airtime to shame Jennifer Lopez for singing "Happy Birthday" for the President of Turkmenistan. I doubt most Lopez fans even know where Turkmenistan is, nor are particularly troubled that Lopez feted a purported dictator. She was not putting a stage show on for Joseph Kony or belly dancing for Ayman al-Zawahiri and will still be embraced by her fan base.
